
Sykes Named Riddell Defensive Player of the Year

CHICAGO - San Jose DL JOE SYKES has been selected Riddell Defensive Player of the Year, the AFL Office announced today.
Sykes (6-2, 280, Southern), a First-Team All-Arena selection and recipient of the GameTape Exchange Defensive Lineman of the Year award, had a record-breaking season. Sykes set the single-season AFL franchise record for sacks with 16 this season. In addition, he led the League in tackles for loss with 18. He tallied 33 tackles, one interception and five forced fumbles on the season.
The 2012 season marks his second in the League and first with the SaberCats.
