SWB Yankees Announce 2011 Schedule

Moosic, PA - The quest for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees fifth consecutive International League North Division title will begin on the road for the as the four time defending International League North winners open the season with six straight games away from PNC Field. The Yankees begin the season with two games in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on April 7th-8th, against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The six game road trip continues at Rochester, New York with four games against the Red Wings, April 9th- 12th against the top affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.

The 2011 home opener for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at PNC Field takes place on April 13th with a 6:35 PM first pitch against the Buffalo Bisons. The opening home stand for the Yankees will be five games, with a three games against Buffalo, April 13th-15th and a two game set against the Rochester Red Wings April 16th-17th. All games on the opening home stand will begin at 6:35 PM with the exception of Sunday, April 17th, which begins at 1:05 PM.

"Opening night every year is always special," said Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees President Kristen Rose. "We once again look forward to another great season as the Yankees will try and win their fifth consecutive North Division title and the sixth straight for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as a franchise, something that has never been done in International League history."

The opening month of the 2011 season for the Yankees will see the team at home for a total of nine games. Following the opening home stand of 2011, SWB will be home for four games in late April against the Syracuse Chiefs from Friday, April 22nd - Monday, April 25th. The schedule has the Yankees at PNC Field for nine games in April, 12 games in May, 16 in June, 11 in July, 22 in August and two in September.

Standard start times for the 2011 season in the months of April and May are 6:35 PM for games Monday through Saturday and 1:05 PM for Sunday games. Games on Saturday, April 23rd, Monday, April 25th, and Saturday, May 7th will begin at 1:05 PM while the Yankees home game against Indianapolis on Tuesday, May 24th will begin at 10:35 AM. Standard start times for June, July and August will be 7:05 PM for games Monday through Saturday and 1:05 PM for Sunday games. The Yankees two home games in September will be a 4:05 PM start on Sunday the fourth and a 1:05 PM start on Monday the fifth.

Rivalry games fill a big portion of the 2011 schedule as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will play a total of 24 games against three of the Yankees biggest rivals: the Buffalo Bisons (New York Mets), the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) and the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox). The Yankees host Buffalo on April 13th - April 15th, July 6th - 8th and September 4th - 5th. The IronPigs are at PNC Field on May 17th - 20th, July 4th - 5th and August 1st - 2nd. The Pawtucket Red Sox make two appearances at PNC Field: May 5th - 8th and August 26th - 29th.

PNC Field will also play host to 12 fireworks shows during the 2011 season as well some of the hottest entertainment acts in Minor League Baseball during the upcoming year, which will be announced at a later date.
