WORCESTER, MA (August 27, 2026) - The The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell 7-1 to the Worcester Red Sox Thursday night. The Boston rehabbing trio of Roman Anthony, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Trevor Story combined for five hits to pace the home team.

Worcester starting the scoring in the first frame. Anthony and Kiner-Falefa singed to reach and Story followed it up with a sacrifice fly. Back-to-back doubles drove in two more runs for a 3-0 score.

The RailRiders bounced back in the second. J.C. Escarra led off with a base hit and Max Schuemann roped an RBI double to get on the board.

Adam Kloffenstein (L, 3-10) settled in to keep the Red Sox off the board for the next four innings. Even though SWB had baserunners, they couldn't produce an offensive push.

The WooSox ran away with it in the sixth after plating four runs on four consecutive hits. Anthony had his second hit of the day to cap the scoring 7-1.

Boston's #16 prospect Blake Wehunt earned the win, allowing the sole run in five frames. Osvaldo Berrios and Seth Martinez combined to finish the game. RailRiders' Travis MacGregor pitched two scoreless innings of his own.

NEWS AND NOTES

IN THE LEAGUE - After a loss last night, the RailRiders are tied for fourth place with Durham in the International League. They are now two and a half games behind the leading Indianapolis with St. Paul, and Rochester in between. The RailRiders are 4-6 in their last ten games, are seven contests above .500 on the full season. Worcester is four and a half games out of first place and have gone 3-7 in their last ten contests.

DUKE'S RECORD PERFORMANCE - Duke Ellis set a new single season record with 45 stolen bases on the season. He broke the record of 44 set by Tommy Barrett in 1989. Barrett did so in 120 games, whereas Ellis marked his in 85 contests. Ellis also holds the franchise record for 87 total with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 161 games. The prior record was held by Nick Punto who stole 82 bags in 263 games. Ellis's personal record is 57 in a single year done back in 2024.

LEAVING THEM LOADED - Yesterday the RailRiders struggled to drive in runs, leaving eight total on base. They had the bases loaded in the seventh and two on in the eighth with no one eight but failed to drive in a run. Last night, the team was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

CHALLENEGE ACCEPTED - SWB made three challenges on pitches during the game all on the defensive side of things. Mitch Garver checked two behind the plate that were overturned for strikes. In addition, Travis MacGregor challenged a ball that was turned to a strike as well. Two of the three turnovers were strike three that ended an inning.

TRAVIS'S TURN - Travis MacGregor impressed yesterday with two clean innings out of the bullpen. Since joining SWB, he has pitched 8.1 innings, allowing just one earned run. MacGregor was a starter in his first few seasons of professional baseball, but transitioned to the bullpen for the 2022 season. MacGregor had four rehab assignments between Tampa and Hudson Valley after being returning from the Injured List on August 7. The 28-year-old was signed by a minor league free agent contract on December 12.

CORNIELLE'S CONTROL - Righty Alexander Cornielle is set to make his eleventh start for SWB this summer. The right-hander holds a 3.33 earned run average in 46 innings of work. He has increased his work load, throwing 5.1 frames last start. Cornielle has been better each month, working a 2.40 ERA in three starts in August. Cornielle, who joined SWB mid-June, was signed as a minor league free agent on December 17 and began the season on the Injured List. He pitched on a rehab assignment before being activated on June 11 and optioned to Double-A for one appearance.

WHAT'S LEFT - The RailRiders have just three and a half weeks of the season left, with two of those series at PNC Field. They will play a six-game set against Worcester this week to finish off August. September features a home series against Lehigh Valley and a trip to Rochester where they will play on Labor Day Monday. SWB wraps up their 2026 campaign with a week at PNC Field against Jacksonville, the Marlins Triple-A affiliate.
