Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns announced the team's 2007 promotional schedule, highlighted by a year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Jacksonville Suns, featuring Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, winning the Triple-A International League Championship.

Every Saturday night during the Suns season, the team will don throwback pinstripe uniforms similar to those worn by the 1967 team. The jerseys will feature a classic blue pinstripe, a retro-style "Suns" script across the front, and the familiar 1960s Suns logo patch on the left shoulder.

"There has been no greater ballplayer come through Jacksonville than Nolan Ryan, and we felt it was very appropriate to honor him and the rest of that great 1967 Jacksonville Suns team with a promotion of this magnitude," said Suns President Peter Bragan, Jr. "Names like Nolan, Tug McGraw and Jerry Koosman remind fans of some of the greatest days of Jacksonville baseball and we hope to bring back some of those memories to our fans this year."

The Suns will also be giving away a series of four bobbleheads with a mix of new and old talent. Two Suns stars and current Los Angeles Dodgers, James Loney and Matt Kemp, will be featured on bobbleheads in June while Tug McGraw and Nolan Ryan will be honored with a giveaway in July and September, respectively. Fans can also receive a Nolan Ryan collectible 1/12th scale figurine on June 30. Other 40th Anniversary promotions include a 1967 Replica Nolan Ryan Jersey Giveaway (April 7), a 1967 Replica "J" Hat Giveaway (April 14) and a 1967 Jersey Pen and Pencil Holder Giveaway (August 11).

Two huge Christian concerts will highlight Family Faith Nights in 2007. The Suns welcome back Avalon on April 27 for a special post-game concert. The second largest crowd in Baseball Grounds history enjoyed Avalon's performance in 2005, with 11,318 fans attending the game. The second Family Faith Night will feature national recording artist Mark Schultz on August 31.

Entertainers will also be well-represented at the Baseball Grounds this summer. The Famous Chicken makes his return on September 2 as part of a Labor Day Celebration while the Blues Brothers come out of retirement for one last trip to Jacksonville on May 17. BirdZerk will entertain the fans on June 8 and the Zooperstars make two appearances on May 20 and July 1.

Back by popular demand, fans will enjoy four special theme jersey auctions this season. The Suns will once again wear pink jerseys to raise awareness to breast cancer on May 18 and June 22 will feature a "Summer of Love" tie-dyed jersey auction to benefit HabiJax. The 10th Annual Jimmy Buffett night with a Buffett-themed jersey and post-game concert will take place on July 27 to benefit the Children's Home Society and the Suns will wear a black, gold and teal satin jersey on August 24, just in time for football season.

All of the Suns' traditional weekly promotions will be back, including Fifty Cent Family Feast Tuesdays, Businessperson's Specials on most Wednesdays, the ever-popular Thursday Night Throwdown, Friday Family Fireworks, and a kids' giveaway with postgame Kids Run the Bases every Sunday. In addition to fireworks every Friday, a gigantic pre-4th of July Fireworks Show will light up the night sky on July 3.

Season ticket packages, group events and sponsorships for the 2007 Suns season are currently on sale at the Suns front office, located at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and open Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5:30pm. The Jacksonville Suns are the Double-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball. The Suns open the 2007 season at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on April 5, 2007 against the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
