Sunday Rewind: Taking a Look at Last Night's Five Games in the USHL

Fargo 5, Cedar Rapids 1

Now 25-3-1-0 on the season, league-leading Fargo received a two-goal, one-assist effort from defenseman Leo Gruba in a 5-1 home win over Cedar Rapids Sunday.

Lee Parks started things off for the Force when he scored at 17:01 of the first.

Gavin Morrisey got his third goal of the year at 1:34 of the second and Gruba, who leads all USHL defensemen in points, goals and assists, scored at 18:54 and after two periods of action, the score favored Fargo 3-0.

Liro Hakkarainen's goal at 5:06 of the third made it a four-goal lead. Landan Resendes tallied for the RoughRiders at 12:12 to make it 4-1 and Gruba closed out the scoring in the game 19 seconds later.

The Force, who have won their last six games, received a 20-save effort from Hampton Slukynsky in the win. Sam Scopa had 41 saves for Cedar Rapids.

Lincoln 2, Tri-City 1 shootout

In a game the featured a pair of outstanding goaltending performances, Lincoln ran its winning streak to three games with a 2-1 shootout win at Tri-City.

Ryan Smith's power play goal, which came at 12:21 of the first, gave Tri-City the game's first lead.

Keaton Peters tallied his 10th goal of the season at 13:12 of the second and after 40 minutes of action the score stood 1-1.

The game remained tied through a scoreless third period and a five-minute overtime session and it took a shootout goal from Lincoln's Ryan Spinale to decide things.

Lincoln netminder Yan Shostak stopped 30 shots in the game and all three shootout shots he faced. Cameron Korpi had 21 saves for Tri-City.

Waterloo 6, Dubuque 2

Waterloo scored the last four goals of the game enroute to a 6-2 home win over Dubuque Sunday.

The Black Hawks, who have now won three games in a row, received three assists from Jakub Altrichter and two goals from Gavin Lindberg in the win.

Nicholas Fascia and Lindberg scored first-period goals as Waterloo built a 2-0 lead and that's how the score stood after 20 minutes of action.

Dubuque responded with the first two goals of the second frame with Erik Pahlsson and Noah Powell converting on power play chances. Grady Deering's power play marker at 11:56 gave the Black Hawks a 3-2 lead and when Griffin Erdman scored at 15:57, Waterloo held a 4-2 lead at the end of the period.

Lindberg got his second of the game when he scored on a power play midway through the third period and Jaedon Kerr's shorthanded empty-netter at 17:07 made it a 6-2 final.

Jack Spicer stopped a career-high 37 shots to record the win for the Black Hawks.

Des Moines 6, Sioux Falls 2

Des Moines received goals from six different players in earning a 6-2 road win at Sioux Falls Sunday.

Ashton Dahms scored for the third consecutive game in giving the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead at 12:33 of the first. Liam Watkins tallied at 17:55 and at the end of the first period, Des Moines held a 2-0 lead.

Beckett Hendrickson's eighth goal of the season, which came at the 1:36 mark of the second, made it 2-1 and that's how the score stood after the first 40 minutes of the game.

Owen Dyer, Jacob Jastrzebski and Jack Kernan goals made it 5-1 before Tyler Borgula replied for the host Stampede. Nate Delladonna closed out the scoring in the contest when he scored at 17:41.

Ethan Dahlmeir was credited with 35 saves in the game for Des Moines.

Omaha 4, Sioux City 3 overtime

Including the game-winning goal in overtime, Nick Pierre scored twice in helping to lift Omaha to a 4-3 road win at Sioux City.

The Musketeers took the game's first lead when Sam Court scored at 12:25 of the opening period.

Kaden Shahan made it 2-0 when he scored on the power play at 11:34 of the second. Pierre scored at 13:05 and when Jamison Sluys tallied on the power play at 15:10, the score stood 2-2. Sioux City regained the lead on a Kevin Fitzgerald goal at 15:49, and when Ethan Fredericks scored at 19:22, it was 3-3 after two periods of play.

Neither team scored in the third, sending the game into overtime.

Pierre ended it at 0:55 of the extra session after taking a nifty feed from Noah Jones and scoring on a backhander.
