Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam experienced their worst offensive night in franchise history en route to a 101-83 loss to the King County Royals in an American Basketball Association game Saturday night at Whatcom Pavilion.

The 83 points scored were a new franchise low for the Slam. As a team, the Slam shot a season-low 38.5 percent from the floor. With the loss, the Slam are just 1-3 in January after finishing 2006 as one of the ABA's hottest teams.

The game started out well enough for the Slam, as they quickly built a 12-point lead, at 24-14, with 1:44 to go in the first quarter. But the Slam's shooting went downhill in the second quarter, scoring only 16 points as King County took a 46-42 lead into halftime.

The Slam were able to rebound slightly after halftime, where they narrowed the deficit to two points, but were unable to take the lead at any point. The Slam trailed after three quarters, 68-66.

Despite their poor shooting, Bellingham was able to stay within striking distance for most of the fourth quarter, trailing by only five at 86-81, with 3:21 left to play. But after that the Slam could find the bottom of the net as they scored only one more basket the rest of the way. King County outscored Bellingam 15-2 down the stretch, mostly on free throws, to take the control of the game and earn their first victory against the Slam.

Mike Parker led five Slam players in double figures with 22 points.

Randy Green led the way for King County, scoring 28 points. Three players, Jamie Booker, Jackie Jones, and Jim Rainwater, recorded double-doubles for the Royals.

The Slam continue their homestand next Tuesday, Jan. 16 against the Carson Buzz at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
