
Strong third quarter propels Slam to 138-111 victory over Titans

BELLINGHAM - Tyler Amaya scored a game-high 29 points as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Vancouver Titans, 138-111, in a spirited International Basketball League contest Saturday at Whatcom Pavilion.
The game was the first live action of the season for Amaya, who missed the Slam's first three games with a groin injury.
Carrying a single-point lead into the second half, at 57-56, the Slam dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Titans 41-19 in the period to take control of the game. The turning point was a 17-3 run in the third quarter's final four minutes that put the Slam's advantage at 23 going into the fourth.
The Titans were unable to mount any sort of comeback in the fourth quarter, trailing by as much as 30 midway through the frame.
Amaya's 29 led three Slam players with at least 20 points. Jacob Stevenson added 25 points while Jake Linton added 20 thanks to a perfect 12-for-12 showing from the free throw line. Lukas Henne was dominant on the boards, pulling down 18 rebounds.
Nate Bowie led Vancouver with 27 points, while Jessan Gray added 22 points and 17 rebounds.
The Slam return to action on Friday, April 24 when they take on the Vancouver Volcanoes. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
