Strong Pitching Propels JetHawks to Fifth Straight Win

(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - Pitching ruled once again for the Lancaster JetHawks in Lake Elsinore. Chris Province turned in his finest performance since joining the club with six scoreless frames, while Jason Blackey took things the rest of the way as the JetHawks beat the Storm 2-1. Lancaster has now matched their season-high with five consecutive wins, getting their second half record back to even at 10-10.
A key Storm error helped the JetHawks score their only two runs. Josh Reddick singled to start the second inning. Luis Exposito hit a come-backer to Storm starter Nathan Culp. After thinking about throwing to second base, Culp instead chose to go to first. Unfortunately for the Storm, he threw the ball into the JetHawks bullpen allowing both runners to advance. A sacrifice fly by Daniel Nava and a ground out by Argenis Diaz brought home the Lancaster runs.
The pitching held strong throughout. Province continued to induce ground balls, helping him go six shutout innings. Jason Blackey allowed just one unearned run over the final three frames to pick up his first save.
Not only did Reddick have four hits for Lancaster, his defense helped save the game in the eighth inning. With one out and Cedric Hunter at first base for Lake Elsinore, Storm right fielder Kellen Kulbacki hit a line drive that looked like was going to bounce off the right field wall. Reddick leaped into the air and made the catch while crashing into the wall. Hunter, believing it was going to be a hit, had come all the way around to the plate. Since Reddick was able to hang on after the impact with the wall, he was able to throw to second for a double play to keep the lead safe.
The JetHawks conclude a four-game road trip Friday night against Lake Elsinore. Travis Beazley (3-9) starts for Lancaster while the Storm counter with Cesar Carrillo (0-2).
