Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA, FL -- Mark Stoute, a former Arena Football League head coach, has joined the Tampa Bay Storm coaching staff, head coach Tim Marcum announced. Stoute will coach the fullback/linebackers and special teams for Tampa Bay in 2005.
Stoute comes from the Storm after being named head coach of arenafootball2's Manchester Wolves in mid-September. Last season he served as assistant head coach and director of player personnel for the Indiana Firebirds and added offensive coordinator responsibilities after Steve DeBerg was fired as head coach following an 0-5 start. Under Stoute's tutelage, rookie quarterback Adrian McPherson flourished and eventually earned AFL Rookie of the Year honors.
"I'm excited that Mark has decided to join our coaching staff," Marcum said. "He's been around the game for a while and has been a head coach in this league. He helped turn Indiana around last year, and I'm confident that he will do a good job for the Tampa Bay Storm."
Stoute has been associated with numerous AFL franchises. Prior to his stint with the Firebirds, Stoute served two seasons as head coach and general manager of the Toronto Phantoms, guiding them to an Eastern Division championship in 2001. His other AFL coaching experience included stints with the New England Sea Wolves, Florida Bobcats, Connecticut Coyotes, and Charlotte Rage.
Stoute was a four-year letter winner as a kicker at Kentucky State University. He went on to play professionally with the Boston Breakers and New Jersey Generals of the USFL.
The Tampa Bay Storm open the 2005 season on Saturday, January 29, when they host the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Pete Times Forum. Season tickets for the 2005 season are on sale now at the St. Pete Times Forum Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased by calling (813) 301-6600 or online at www.tampabaystorm.com.
