Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - For the first third of the ballgame on Tuesday night at the Hangar, the JetHawks looked energized by their off day and appeared well on their way to a victory. Beginning in the top of the fifth, however, Lance Zawadski keyed an offensive explosion for the Lake Elsinore Storm, who scored eight runs in the next three innings and held on to win the series opener.

The JetHawks struck first in the ballgame, when Craig Corrado tripled in two runs with a shot down the right field line. Chris Jackson followed with a broken-bat single up the middle that brought in the third run and staked Lancaster to a 3-0 lead.

Starter Shane Wolf ran into trouble in the fifth, and his problems began with a defensive miscue. Chris Johnson, who is here on a rehab assignment from Round Rock and had played brilliantly defensively to that point, misplayed a high hopper from Justin Baum and threw high to Brian Pellegrini. Yefri Carvajal doubled in Baum, then he and Brad Chalk scored on Zadawski's first double of the night.

Lancaster regained the lead in their half of the fifth. Nick Moresi doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch; he was then involved in one of the most questionable calls of the season at home plate. On a bullet from Jackson that was stabbed by Storm starter Corey Kluber, Moresi was caught in a rundown - which he evaded by spinning on the third base line and sprinting home, apparently ahead of the tag of catcher Luis Martinez. Home plate umpire Tim Eastman saw it differently and called Moresi out. The JetHawks still managed two runs in the frame when Johnson doubled in Jackson and J.B. Shuck, who had walked.

But Elsinore scored two more in the sixth, two in the seventh and hung on for the win. The JetHawks continue their series with Lake Elsinore tomorrow night at 7 PM. The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 PM.

Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website www.JetHawks.com.
