Storm to host USF Day

February 27, 2003 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA, FL -- The Tampa Bay Storm will host USF Day on Sunday March 2, when the Storm take on the Detroit Fury in a 3:00 pm contest at the St. Pete Times Forum. Festivities begin at 1:00 pm on the Plaza outside of the arena, and the Storm will honor USF football coach Jim Leavitt on the field prior to kickoff.

All USF students, faculty, and staff are invited to take in an afternoon of football and be a part of the Storm honoring the USF football program. USF students and all USF Alumni Association members can receive 50% off the price of tickets at the St. Pete Times Forum Box Office with a valid USF or USF Alumni Association identification card.

The party begins at 1:00 pm with promotions and festivities on the Plaza outside of the arena, including 25-cent beers being sold from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Coach Leavitt will be honored in a ceremony during the pregame show, with current Storm wide receiver/defensive back and former USF star Clif Dell making a special presentation to Leavitt. The USF marching band will also be on the field performing prior to kickoff. Additionally, the first 10,000 fans will receive Storm pom-poms courtesy of the St. Petersburg Times.

The Storm (2-2) return home following a tough three-game road trip. Tampa Bay is coming off of an emotional 58-56 win last Sunday at Grand Rapids, with newly-signed kicker Ian Howfield booting the game-winning field goal as time expired.

The Detroit Fury (3-1) feature quarterback Andy Kelly, the Arena Football League's top passer of all time. They also bring in a retooled team that has already won three times as many games in 2003 as it did a season ago.

Sunday's game against Detroit will not be televised and plenty of tickets remain. Tickets can be purchased by calling (813) 301-6600 or online at www.tampabaystorm.com.
