Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA, FL -- The defending ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm continued to revamp their defensive secondary on Tuesday, signing Arena Football League veteran Shea Showers, head coach Tim Marcum announced.

Showers (5-11, 185) is entering his seventh season in the AFL and comes to the Storm after one season with the Grand Rapids Rampage. Prior to that he played five seasons for the Iowa Barnstormers/New York Dragons, where he was named to the 1998 AFL All-Rookie team.

Showers, a Gainesville, Fla., resident and a former Florida Gator, played in 11 games last season for the Rampage and finished third on the team with 35.5 tackles. He was also third on the squad with three interceptions and had 15 pass breakups.

With the Dragons from 1998-2000 Showers teamed with fellow Storm newcomer Carlos James, who was the team's wide receiver/defensive back. Both are expected to compete for a roster spot at their respective positions when Storm training camp opens on January 17.

After losing both of their defensive specialists from last season, the Storm have brought in a number of players to compete for those two spots in training camp. Along with Showers and James, others newcomers who will get a chance to earn a starting defensive specialist position are former NFL first-round draft choice Antonio Langham and Del Lee. Additionally, returners Jonathan Ordway and TT Toliver could get a chance to earn a spot on the roster as a defensive specialist.

The Tampa Bay Storm begin defense of their 2004 ArenaBowl championship on Sunday, February 8, 2004, when they host the Orlando Predators at the St. Pete Times Forum. Season tickets for the 2004 Storm season are on sale now at the St. Pete Times Forum Box Office. Season tickets can also be purchased by phone at (813) 301-6600 or online at www.tampabaystorm.com.

Single-game tickets for the 2004 Storm season are also on sale now. Single-game tickets can be purchased at the St. Pete Times Forum Box office, at www.tampabaystorm.com, or at any TicketMaster outlet.
