
Storm sign veteran AFL kicker Matt George

TAMPA, FL -- The Tampa Bay Storm signed their third kicker of the season on Thursday, inking Arena Football League veteran Matt George to a contract.
George (6-1, 215, Chapman) last played for the Carolina Cobras in 2003. He entered the AFL in 2000 with the New England Sea Wolves and played for the Toronto Phantoms in 2001 and 2002.
To make room for George on the roster, the Storm released kicker Mike Black.
Last season George was one of just two players to play in all 16 games for the Cobras. He ranked second in the AFL in field goals attempted (42) and made (15) and finished eighth in the league in field goal percentage.
For his career George has averaged over 100 points in each of his four seasons. He enters his stint with the Storm with 457 career points and has a career extra point percentage of 88.4%. He has also made 61-of-144 career field goals, including a long of 56 yards during the 2001 season. George has connected on five field goals of 50-plus yards during his AFL career.
George and the Storm travel to Duluth, Geo., to face the Georgia Force on Saturday, March 27. Kickoff at The Arena at Gwinnett Center is scheduled for 7:00 pm. There will be no television for the game, but it can be heard live on 1250-AM WHNZ.
Following this weekend's Southern Division showdown with the Force, the Storm return home to take on the San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, April 4. The game kicks off at noon at the St. Pete Times Forum and features the last two ArenaBowl champions.
