TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free-agent offensive/defensive lineman Greg Taplin, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
A 6-foot-4, 267-pound native of Hollywood, Florida, Taplin spent his college career with the Michigan State Spartans and played for four seasons. As a freshman he was named to the True Freshman All-American squad by Rivals.com. During his freshman year in East Lansing he started three games and appeared in all 11.
During his sophomore season he played in all 12 games for Michigan State and recorded 27 tackles. As a junior he had two sacks and 38 tackles while making eight starts. During the 2004 season he played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. With the Thunder he made 17 tackles and two sacks for a loss of 14 yards. He also recovered one fumble and recorded one pass deflection.
The 2006 Tampa Bay Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, gets underway on January 29, 2006 in Philadelphia with the home opener scheduled for February 10, 2006 against the National Conference Champion Georgia Force.
