TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm has acquired kicker Delbert Alvarado and defensive lineman John Brown announced Storm vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.
"Delbert is a local player that has experience at every professional level," said Gooch. "We are happy to have him and we're looking forward to watching him compete."
Alvarado (5-foot-11, 205 lbs., South Florida) joins the Storm for his first season in the blue and gold. The Robinson H.S. (Tampa, FL) product played in 48 games for the University of South Florida converting 91-of-93 extra point attempts over the course of his four-year career.
A Tampa native, Alvarado began his professional career in 2010 when he signed with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League as an undrafted rookie free agent. Alvarado spent the past three seasons in the Canadian Football League, most recently with the Ottawa Redblacks. He has also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2013) and the Montreal Alouettes (2013-14).
Brown (6-foot-2, 305 lbs., Valdosa State) joins the Storm after spending training camp with the Orlando Predators. Brown started his collegiate career at Northeast Mississippi Community College before settling down with the Blazers. The Lakeland, FL native started in 6-of-11 games. He recorded 22 tackles including two sacks for a loss of 14 yards and a blocked kick.
"John is a versatile player that can play on both the offensive and defensive lines," said Gooch. "He has experience in the AFL and is a welcome addition to the team."
The team reassigned kicker Craig Peterson. Peterson was in his second season with the Storm. For his career he's converted 100-of-121 extra point attempts.
