TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm has activated wide receiver and kick returner Kendrick Ings along with offensive lineman Cornelius Dixon, announced vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch.
"Kendrick is a dual-threat option that can score on offense and special teams," said Gooch. "He had a great rookie season and we believe his time in the Canadian Football League these past few months can only improve what he brings to the team."
Ings (5-foot-10, 180 lbs., Miller Grove H.S.(GA)) joins the Storm for his second season in the blue and gold. The Miami native had an outstanding rookie campaign in 2015, generating rookie of the year contention. Ings was a player that excelled in all phases of the game, starting in 14-of-16 games for the Storm and reeling in 68 passes for 997 yards and 15 touchdowns.
As the team's primary kick returner, Ings had 82 kick returns for 1,435 yards and three touchdowns. He had seven games in which he racked up 100+ kickoff return yards, including a 178-yard performance versus the Philadelphia Soul.
Ings wrapped up his rookie campaign in the top-5 of several categories including kick returns (82-3rd), kick return yards (1,435-4th) and kick return touchdowns (3-T3rd). He was also ranked fifth with 2,437 all-purpose yards.
He spent 2016 training camp with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
The team also activated three-time ArenaBowl Champion offensive lineman, Cornelius Dixon.
"It is imperative for us to protect our quarterback at all times," said Gooch. "Dixon is a big body that has experience blocking forn some of the best teams in this League. He is a welcome addition to this offensive line."
Dixon (6-foot-6, 340 lbs., Missouri Valley) was acquired by the Storm last week in a trade with the Los Angeles KISS. The five-year veteran enters his first season in a Storm uniform. A three-time ArenaBowl Champion, Dixon has blocked on some of the best offensive lines in the League. In 2014, while he was with the Arizona Rattlers, he started on a line that was tied for the least amount of sacks allowed with seven.
Dixon began his career in 2011 with the Kansas City Command. Over the past five seasons, Dixon has started in 65-of-85 games played including playoffs. He won championships with the Rattlers (2013 and 2014) and the San Jose SaberCats (2015).
The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm is entering its 25th season in Tampa Bay.
