Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have named Stoney Case as starting quarterback after releasing quarterback John Kaleo, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today. The team also waived defensive back Lynarise Elpheage, as well as wide receivers Huey Whittaker and Hank Edwards.

"After a 0-4 start a change needed to be made," said Marcum. "We need to head in a new direction. We plan to re-sign John to back up Stoney at the first opportunity. We regret this day has come. John won us a championship in 2003, but it was time to make a change."

Case, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller out of New Mexico is a four-year Arena Football veteran. He was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round (80th overall) of the 1995 National Football League Entry Draft. Case spent six seasons in the NFL with the Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions.

He spent two seasons with Tampa Bay in 2004 and 2005 before signing with the San Jose SaberCats for the 2006 season.

"We are confident in what Stoney can do for us, he has spent a lot of time in our system," said Marcum. "We expect him to step in and fill John's shoes."

In other roster the moves, Marcum announced fullback Rodney Filer will go on injured reserve and the team will activate linebacker Nyle Wiren off of injured reserve. Additionally, the team claimed Byron Jones, a 5-9, 190-pound defensive back out of Texas A&M, from the practice squad of the Dallas Desperados.

The 2007 Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sports Lives, returns to action this Saturday as the Tampa Bay Storm travel to the HP Pavilion in San Jose to take on the San Jose SaberCats Saturday, March 31 at 10:30 p.m. (EST).
