Mat-Su Miners News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, Logan Stoelke stepped to the plate and delivered for the Anchorage Bucs.

Stoelke's solo shot gave the Bucs a 6-5 victory over the Mat-Su Miners at Mulcahy Stadium on Sunday.

"I thought the way we played all night was fantastic," Miners head coach Ben Taylor said. "I love the way we competed on the mound. We played good defense and we kept pushing all night offensively."

The Miners (11-7) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, when shortstop Josh Bissonette walked with the bases loaded to plate the team's first run of the day.

The Bucs (10-11) responded in the fifth inning, as Cole Maltese disrupted a no-hit bid from Miners pitcher Jacob Hughey with a bases-loaded RBI single.

Alex Guenette followed with another single for Anchorage, and Aaron Arruda added an RBI groundout to stretch the Bucs lead to 3-1. L.J. Hatch would add two more runs on a double to give the Bucs a four-run advantage.

Hughey threw four perfect innings before allowing the scoring outburst in the fifth inning. The left-hander finished with 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings, improving his summer strikeout total to 29.

"Hughey competes really hard and he's working on his craft," Taylor said. "He's been doing a good job for us."

The Miners loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, as catcher Andy Cosgrove was hit by pitch to bring in the team's second run of the afternoon. Centerfielder Brooks Stotler followed with an RBI single to right centerfield to cut the deficit to 5-3 before a double play ended the inning.

Leftfielder Garrison Schwartz cut the deficit to one in the eighth inning on an RBI single. With two outs and the bases loaded, second baseman Angelo Armenta chopped one down the first baseline, causing an error by the Anchorage defense and tying the game at 5-5.

Gage O'Brien took the mound in relief for the Mat-Su, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings before allowing the game-deciding solo shot.

With one out in the following inning, Stoelke connected on a fastball, driving it over the left field fence to give the Bucs the victory.

Schwartz led the Mat-Su offense with two hits, while third baseman A.J. Lee provided two runs.

The Miners return to Palmer on Monday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks at Hermon Brothers Field.
