Columbia Stingers News Release
Columbia, SC, February 12th, 2007--Today the Columbia Stingers indoor football team announced to the community their "name the mascot" contest where fans can write in with their ideas for naming the Stinger's mascot. The contest starts today and all names must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on March 10.
Names are to be submitted to Jamie Ballentine, mascot coordinator, at Columbiastingers@aol.com. Contestants need to provide their name, address, telephone number and age.
The team's staff will select their five favorite names and give those contestants two free tickets to our opening game on March 17th, 2007. The mascot's name will be introduced for the first time during the game. The final winner will be rewarded with two season tickets for life.
Ballentine was the former Cocky mascot for the USC Gamecocks from 2002- 2006 and he was Blowie the mascot for the Columbia Blowfish baseball team in the 2006 summer.
"I was on the Capital One mascot team for three years in a row and won it in 2003, thanks to a lot of fans out there so I hope to get those fans out here as well to support the Stingers," said Ballentine.
