FREDERICK, Md. -On Monday afternoon, DJ Stewart was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League's "Fall Stars Game." This contest features some of Minor League Baseball's most exciting prospects and will take place this Saturday, November 5 at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on MLB Network.
Stewart will play on the West Division team and is currently second in the AFL in walks (11). In the process, he has posted a .375 on-base percentage for the Peoria Javelinas. At the plate he is 10-for-45 in 12 games with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs.
After beginning his regular season with the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds, Stewart was promoted to the Keys on June 23. In 59 games, he hit .279 with six home runs, 30 RBIs, two triples, 12 doubles and 10 stolen bases (13 tries). Closing out the year strong, the former Florida State star batted .294 in his final 33 games.
Selected by the Orioles with the 25th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Stewart was twice named a First Team All-American as a member of the Seminoles, the first FSU player to accomplish that feat since MLB All Star Buster Posey did so in 2007-08. As a sophomore, Stewart was named ACC Player of the Year.
Stewart's manager with the Keys, Keith Bodie, will serve as one of the coaches for the West Division team. Orioles minor league pitching coach, Justin Lord, was also named to the coaching staff.
