Bellingham Slam News Release
TACOMA - Guard Jacob Stevenson continued his strong start by scoring 33 points as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Tacoma Tide, 116-95, in an International Basketball League non-conference game at Curtis High School on Thursday.
Stevenson, who was coming off his first career triple-double last Sunday against British Columbia, netted his 33 with 14-for-23 shooting from the floor and only five trips to the free throw line.
The Slam, who have traditionally struggled in road games at Tacoma dating back to their days in the American Basketball Association, found themselves down by nine points well into the first quarter, before Zach Bruce and Morris Anderson closed the quarter with six points to trim the deficit to three, at 25-22.
Bellingham turned things around in the middle stages of the second quarter, using a 15-2 run to take a 50-44 lead into halftime.
Tacoma scored the first two baskets of the third quarter before the Slam really got their offense going, pouring in 24 points in a five-minute span in the middle of the frame to go up 74-54 with 5:44 left.
The Slam scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to max out their lead at 32 points. The Tide rattled off 13 straight in the middle part of quarter to trim the gap to 17 points, but it was too little, too late as Bellingham cruised the rest of the way for their second victory against the Tide this season.
Stevenson's 33 points led five Slam players in double figures. Anderson finished with 16 points, while Ike Ohanson posted another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Dontay Harris and Lorenzo Rollins shared the scoring lead for Tacoma with 19 points each.
The Slam return home for a game against the top-ranked Yamhill Highflyers on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
