Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam received a triple-double from Jacob Stevenson as they concluded the regular season with a win over the Tacoma Tide, 110-91, in International Basketball League action on Friday at Whatcom Pavilion.
Stevenson finished with 19 points, 15 assists and ten rebounds for Bellingham.
The Slam appeared to be en route to an easy victory as they stormed out to a 25-6 midway into the first quarter. But Tacoma demonstrated that they wouldn't go away quietly as they stormed back to take a two-point lead on a jumper by Justin Murray, at 32-30, 2:55 into the second quarter. They continued to hold a two-point lead at halftime, at 49-47.
The two teams played a back-and-forth third quarter, but the Slam gained momentum after Derrick Webb drained a shot clock buzzer-beating three-pointer with just over a minute left in the period. The bucket gave the Slam a four-point advantage, at 72-68, going into the fourth quarter.
Bellingham opened the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run and didn't look back after that, as Tacoma was only twice able to get the margin into single digits, both times in the middle stages of the frame.
Paul Hafford led the Slam with 23 points, while Webb had his second straight strong outing by posting 20 points. Ike Ohanson finished with a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Antwan Williams led Tacoma with a game-high 26 points.
The Slam finished the regular season with a 13-7 record, which Tacoma finished 6-16.
Bellingham now travels to Portland, Ore., for the IBL conference playoff tournament. The Slam will play a first round game on July 1 against an opponent to be determined. The league will announce a playoff schedule next week.
