Bellingham Slam News Release

LANGLEY, B.C. - Jacob Stevenson finished with a triple-double while brother Jared was nearly perfect from three-point range as the Bellingham Slam defeated the British Columbia Titans, 114-102, in an International Basketball League game Sunday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.

The victory was the Slam's second against the Titans this weekend, after defeating them at home on Friday by a score of 114-91. Sunday's win was the final game between the two teams this season, with Bellingham taking the series three games to one.

Jacob Stevenson finished the contest with his first career triple-double with totals of 27 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. Jared Stevenson was equally impressive, connecting on 7-of-8 three point shots in the game.

Both the offense and defense were clicking for the Slam right from the opening tip, as Jared Stevenson made his first four outside shots in the game's opening minutes. The Slam raced out to a 22-2 lead with 3:52 left in the quarter, before eventually going into the quarter break with a 30-9 advantage. The nine points allowed in the quarter set a new defensive team record for the Slam.

The Titans mounted a fair comeback in the second quarter, led by Avery Smith's nine points and back-to-back three-pointers by Chad Troyer in the middle stages of the period. Twice British Columbia was able to trim the deficit to single digits, before heading into halftime with Bellingham ahead 53-40.

The Titans offense was much improved in the second half, shooting 49 percent from the floor compared to 26 percent in the first half, but Bellingham matched them nearly shot-for-shot as they had an answer for everything the Titans put in. Nine points by new Slam center Zach Bruce, all in the fourth quarter, helped hold back the Titans.

Jacob and Jared Stevenson each finished with 27 points in leading the Slam. Double-doubles were posted both by Ike Ohanson (ten points and 16 rebounds) and Lukas Henne (14 points and ten rebounds).

Avery Smith led six Titans players in double figures with 30 points to go along with ten assists. J.R. Morris also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Slam play one more game on the road, Thursday night in Tacoma against the Tide, before returning home on May 22 to take on the division-leading Yamhill Highflyers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
