Stephen Stamp from IL Indoor wins Tom Borrelli Award as 2013 NLL Media Person of the Year

May 29, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

The National Lacrosse League has announced that Stephen Stamp from IL Indoor has won The Tom Borrelli Award, annually presented to the NLL Media Person of the Year, for the 2013 season.

Stamp has demonstrated a commitment to providing comprehensive coverage of the league and sport over the past 12 months while serving as co-editor of IL Indoor. Stamp also contributed as the host of the Boxla Beat radio show in addition to his work as an announcer and NLL Entry Draft analyst on The Lacrosse Network.

"It's a surprise and a great honor to learn that I've been selected as The Borrelli Award winner," Stamp said. "There are so many people doing such a good job covering the league with passion and insight that I'm kind of blown away to receive the award."

A lifelong follower of the game, Stamp has covered lacrosse for eight years and has served as co-editor of ILindoor.com for the past two years. During his three years with the outlet, Stamp has produced over 1,000 lacrosse-related posts covering the NLL, NCAA and Junior lacrosse.

"The great pleasure of the business - besides getting to watch fantastic lacrosse action - is that when I'm not at my computer, I'm often getting to interact with the people of the game, the players, coaches and others that make the NLL such a great league to be a part of. I really like the people in the game and I love getting to write and talk about them."

The award is named in honor of the late Tom Borrelli, who covered the Buffalo Bandits for The Buffalo News from the team's inception in 1992 until 2008.

Borrelli passed away on November 20, 2008 following injuries suffered in an accident that took place while covering a high school football game in Buffalo. In 2007, Borrelli became the first media member to be recognized by the NLL Hall of Fame for their contributions to the game.

Originally presented to the league's Writer of the Year, the award's title was changed to Media Person of the Year in 2011 to allow for a wider range of media members to be considered for the award. Last year's winner was Minnesota Swarm play-by-play announcer and radio host Jake Elliott.

The Tom Borrelli Award is determined by a vote of the league's Board of Governors.
