Stealth wins fifth straight, routs Edmonton 14-7

(San Jose, CA, March 25, 2007) --- The Stealth returned home after their Saturday night victory in Portland to defeat the Edmonton Rush 17-8 this evening at HP Pavilion and extend their winning streak to five games.

Jeff Zywicki led the Stealth attack with nine points (5G, 4A), while Luke Wiles netted six points (1G, 5A) on the night. San Jose went five for eight on the power play and scored six fourth quarter goals in the victory. Anthony Cosmo earned the win in net, making 36 saves and allowing only seven goals in four quarters of play.

The Stealth came out firing in the first quarter, scoring three straight power play goals to take an early 3-0 lead. Zywicki converted for San Jose's first power play goal at 2:09 and Gary Rosyski followed up at 5:28 for his 100th goal of his career. Colin Doyle finished San Jose's power play scoring streak when he netted his first goal of the night at 11:15. San Jose received penalties for Slashing and Holding at 12:47 and Edmonton converted on the two man advantage for their first goal of the night at 13:46. Fourteen seconds later, Edmonton struck again when Chris Gill quick-sticked a goal past Stealth Goaltender Anthony Cosmo. The Stealth wasted no time and thirteen seconds later, Luke Wiles notched his first goal of the game at 14:13. Cosmo shut down the Edmonton attack in the first quarter; stopping Edmonton's Darren Hillier and Chris Gill at point blank range and totaling twelve saves. The quarter would end with the Stealth up 4-2.

Scoring settled in the second quarter, and the Stealth maintained the lead. Edmonton scored their only goal of the quarter when Jamey Bowen converted for his first goal of the game at 0:55, but San Jose responded when Gary Rosyski notched his second goal of the night at 4:30 to give the Stealth a 5-3 lead. Rosyski assisted the Stealth's next goal scored by Jeff Zywicki at 10:30 and the Stealth entered the locker room at halftime with a 6-3 advantage.

Edmonton started the scoring in the second half, when Jason Wulder scored his first goal of the night at 2:13 to make it 6-4. After an Edmonton Holding penalty at 3:05, the Stealth went back on the power play, and converted for their fourth power play goal of the night from Jeff Zywicki. Edmonton made it 7-5 when Chris McElroy got a gift rebound off an Anthony Cosmo save and batted it past the Stealth net minder at 6:24. The Stealth used a quick transition to score their next goal with 2:49 left in the quarter when Andrew Guindon's initial shot was blocked and Jeff Zywicki picked up the rebound for a quick-stick goal past Edmonton Goaltender Curtis Palidwor. Zywicki's fourth goal of the night put the Stealth up 8-5.

The fourth quarter belonged to the San Jose as five different Stealth players converted on Palidwor. Jeff Zywicki continued his scoring rout, registering the first goal of the fourth quarter, to put the Stealth up 9-5 at 12:58. Edmonton responded quickly when Dan Stroup converted on a one v. one opportunity in front of the cage at 12:02. San Jose followed up with a shorthanded tally by Curtis Hodgson at 5:35. Edmonton scored their final goal of the night when Jamey Bowen scored on the power play to make it 10-7, and San Jose would score the next four goals for a final score of 14-7.

The Stealth's two victories this weekend extend San Jose's winning streak to five games and places the team in a tie with Calgary for third place in the Western Division. A 6-5 record gives the Stealth its first winning record this season.

The Stealth takes their 4-1 road record to Arizona on Saturday, March 31 as they try to extend their winning streak to six against the Sting. San Jose will then play Portland in Portland on April 6 before returning home to face Edmonton again on April 7 at HP Pavilion.
