Stealth Picks Up First Home Win
January 30, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release
SAN JOSE - When the San Jose Stealth made its regular season home debut last year, they defeated the Colorado Mammoth.
Turn the clock ahead slightly more than a year later and once again, the Mammoth played a role in a Stealth first for 2005.
Thanks to a four-goal game by Gary Rosyski, five assists from Cam Sedgwick and by allowing only one goal in the last minute of the game - despite being two men short for most of that time - the Stealth (3-2) won its first home game of 2005 tonight, a 12-10 decision over Colorado (2-2) before 5,107 at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
San Jose's win ties them with the Calgary Roughnecks for first place in the National Lacrosse League's West Division, a half-game ahead of the Mammoth and the Anaheim Storm.
Colorado's John Gallant opened the scoring within the first two minutes of the first quarter. But the Stealth, after going 0-for-9 on the power play against the Minnesota Swarm last Saturday, scored three straight with the man advantage as Brad Dairon, Curt Malawsky and Rosyski picked up goals before 11 minutes elapsed in the first quarter.
After Sedgwick's goal at 13:16 put San Jose up 4-2, the Mammoth closed the quarter by tying the game on goals by Chris Prat and Gary Gait.
Colorado ended the first half with a 6-5 lead and they scored the first goal of the third quarter on Josh Sims' unassisted goal. That's when San Jose responded with three straight goals by Curt Malawsky, Ryan Boyle and Rosyski's second of the game.
The Stealth led 8-7 going into the final quarter. Del Halladay tied the score at 2:06. Rosyski secured the hat trick with an over-the-shoulder, behind-the-back shot at 3:06 to give San Jose a temporary one-goal lead. Colorado's Jay Jalbert scored slightly more than two minutes later to tie the game at 9-9.
However, the Stealth rallied with Rosyski's fourth goal at 9:32 and Boyle got one at 10:29 to give San Jose a two-goal advantage.
The last two minutes of regulation put San Jose to the test. Eric Martin was called for interference at 13:11 and Jim Moss followed him into the penalty box with a holding penalty at 14:09. Colorado's Gavin Prout scored with the two-man advantage at 14:22 to cut the Stealth's lead to one. San Jose's Matt Ogelsby's empty net goal 20 seconds later gave them a two-goal advantage again. But two seconds later, San Jose was called for too many men. However, the Stealth held on to win.
