
Stealth Loses To Colorado Mammoth, 14-6

SAN JOSE - The Colorado Mammoth dominated from start to finish as they defeated the San Jose Stealth, 14-6, before 5,512 fans at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
The first half was an indicator of the entire match as the Mammoth (4-3) outshot the Stealth (3-4), 32-16, and outscored San Jose, 6-2. Colorado's Gary Gait and Dan Stroup scored the only two goals of the first quarter. San Jose picked up their first score with 43 seconds gone in the second quarter on Ryan Boyle's 12th goal of the season. But Colorado's Gavin Prout answered 24 seconds later with his 13th goal to give the Mammoth a 3-1 lead.
San Jose's Derek Malawsky scored at 2:02 to put the Stealth within a goal at 3-2. However, the Mammoth scored three straight unassisted goals by Scott Stapleford, Josh Sims and Jay Jalbert to give Colorado a 6-2 lead at intermission.
Each team scored three times in the third quarter. San Jose's Curt Malawsky scored first, but Colorado's Nick Carlson, Jalbert and Brian Langtry scored the next three goals. The Stealth ended the quarter with two goals by Steve Toll and Gary Rosyski to put them within four at 9-5.
Yet those two goals didn't give San Jose any momentum going into the fourth quarter. Colorado scored the first five goals and held the Stealth to just one at the 14:45 mark on Rosyski's second goal of the game.
Rosyski led the Stealth scoring with two goals. Boyle had a goal and three assists and Toll had a goal and two assists. Colorado's Jalbert had the game's lone hat trick.
RADAR BLIPS: Colorado outshot San Jose, 58-41, including a 17-9 advantage in the first quarter. Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash made 35 saves in the win. San Jose's Anthony Cosmo had 27 saves in taking the loss. Cosmo was relieved by Rob Blasdell, who had 17 saves. . .Tonight's game was the first time San Jose had been held scoreless in the first quarter during their one-plus season of existence. . .San Jose's six goals was the fewest they've scored in a game this year and ties a franchise low set on March 26, 2004 in Colorado. . .National Lacrosse League legend Gait made his last regular season appearance in San Jose and had a goal and four assists. Before the game, the Stealth presented Gait with a custom painting by renowned sports artist Ron Stenn. . .San Jose's next game is Feb. 24 in Colorado. The Stealth doesn't return to HP Pavilion until March 12 when they face the Arizona Sting.
