Stealth Loses Heartbreaker In Arizona

SAN JOSE - The Arizona Sting defeated the San Jose Stealth, 13-12, in front of 6,614 fans at Glendale Arena on Friday night. Ted Dowling was impressive in his first game for San Jose posting six points (five goals, one assist).

San Jose led the game 11-8 early in the fourth quarter, but four unanswered Arizona goals (three by Jonas Derks) put the Stealth down by a goal with under a minute remaining. Dowling tied the game with 35 seconds remaining to force overtime.

It took only 30 seconds into the overtime period for Arizona defenseman Bruce Codd to score a goal and secure the win for the Sting.

The Stealth were led by Dowling, Gary Rosyski (three goals, one assist) and Derek Malawsky (one goal, three assists). Stealth goaltender Anthony Cosmo stopped 34 of 47 shots.

Sting forward Dan Dawson notched four points on the night (three goals, one assist), while Pat Maddalena added three points (two goals, one assist). Sting goaltender Ken Montour earned the win in goal, recording 46 saves.

Arizona improves to 5-4, while San Jose slips to 3-6. These two teams meet tomorrow night in the second game of their home-and-home series at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
