SAN JOSE - San Jose Stealth fans were treated to the "Captain and the Kid Show" tonight.

Stealth Captain Cam Woods had three goals, while rookie sensation Ryan Boyle netted two. In addition, San Jose held their opponent to a season-best eight goals.

But despite the strong defense, the Stealth (4-11) lost their last regular season home game to the Rochester Knighthawks, 8-7, before 5,120 at HP Pavilion at San Jose.

The win enabled Rochester (9-6) to clinch a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

San Jose opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Woods at 8:34 of the first quarter. But Rochester answered with goals by Scott Evans and John Grant to give them a 2-1 lead. The Stealth came back in the second quarter with goals from Woods at 7:02 and Boyle (50 seconds later) to give San Jose a 3-2 lead.

However, the Knighthawks answered with three consecutive goals from ex-Stealth defenseman Steve Toll, Grant and Ryan O'Connor to give them a 5-3 lead. Kevin Fines gave San Jose some momentum by scoring a goal with under a second left in the first half to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Rochester's Grant scored the first two goals of the third quarter to give the K-Hawks a 7-4 lead. San Jose's Spencer Martin scored the final goal of the quarter to reduce Rochester's lead to two at 7-5. Boyle's second goal of the game at 1:01 of the final quarter put the Stealth down, 7-6. But Mat Giles' goal with the extra man at 9:00 gave the K-Hawks some insurance as all San Jose could muster was an empty net goal by Woods at 14:54.
