San Jose Stealth News Release
Minneapolis - The San Jose Stealth (5-9) lost their fifth game in a row and now find themselves in a must win situation next weekend against the Arizona Sting.
The Stealth fell to the Minnesota Swarm (8-7) in overtime and are now one full game behind the Arizona Sting in the race for the final Western Division playoff spot. The two teams will battle in a home and home series starting Friday night in Arizona.
The Swarm controlled early on the strength of four goals by Dean Hill and led 6-4 at the half. In the second half Stealth goaltender Anthony Cosmo and the Stealth defense stiffened, holding the Swarm to a single goal in the third quarter and scored twice themselves.
The Stealth then opened the fourth quarter with two goals to take an 8-7 lead. At 10:28 into the final period the Swarm tied the game at 8-8 on a Spencer Martin goal before both defenses tightened keeping both teams scoreless for the remainder of regulation.
After Stealth goaltender Cosmo fended off a penalty shot to begin overtime the Stealth had a couple chances at the Swarm net before Minnesota came up with a turnover. Jamie Taylor faked out a Stealth defender on his way to the net and scored the overtime winner past Cosmo.
The Stealth were lead by Luke Wiles who score four points, including three first half goals.
