Stealth Hang On To Edge Titans 12-11

(San Jose, CA, February 24, 2007) --- The San Jose Stealth defeated the New York Titans, 12-11, at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday February 24 for their second win of the 2007 season. The Stealth used a balanced attack, with five players scoring two goals apiece. Colin Doyle, Jeff Zywicki, Luke Wiles, Gary Rosyski and Cam Sedgwick each scored two goals and new Stealth acquisition Andrew Burkholder and Ian Hawksbee added singles. The Stealth rocked the power play, going 4-6 with the man advantage while Goaltender Anthony Cosmo finished with 42 saves in the win.

The Stealth started the game with a dynamic goal by Forward Luke Wiles on the power play to take the early lead. After two quick Titan goals, the Stealth went on to score the next four and finish the first quarter up 5-2. Gary Rosyski stepped up in the second quarter with two power play goals to give the Stealth a 7-5 lead at half-time.

The third quarter saw fists flying and four Stealth penalties. Jeff Zywicki served a minor penalty for Goalie Interference at 1:43 and Kyle Sorensen and former Stealth player Ryan Boyle exchanged blows at 4:33. That fight landed them both in the penalty box with five minute majors and then Titans Leading Scorer Casey Powell received a ten minute Unsportsmanlike Conduct Misconduct Penatly for words he exchanged after the fight. Unfortuantely, this ingited the Titans offense, and they went on to score two short handed goals. The Stealth would finally take advantage of their man advantage when Luke Wiles scored his second goal of the night from Colin Doyle and Jeff Zywicki making it 8-7. The Stealth would never give up the lead. Tim Booth and Ian Hawksbee each recieved minor penalties at 7:37 and 13:56 respectively, but the Stealth defense shut down the Titans attack. Colin Doyle ended the third period scoring his second goal of the night at 11:20.

New York started the fourth quarter with a goal 41 seconds in, but the Stealth pounced back on attack when Ian Hawksbee scored eight seconds later off an assist from Jeff Zywicki. Cam Sedgwick scored his second goal of the night unassisted at 3:05 and then assisted Jeff Zywicki's next goal at 4:34. New York pulled their goalie, ex Stealth player, Matt Vinc to score two goals with the extra attacker, but it wasn't enough as the Stealth held on for the 12-11 win.

Colin Doyle and Jeff Zywicki led the team with six points each, both off two goals and four assists while Rookie Joe Vasold went 9-14 on face-offs. This is the second road win for the Stealth this season. Their last road win came against the Calgary Roughnecks on Jan. 12 in overtime. San Jose looks to earn their third road win of 2007 against the Edmonton Rush next Friday at Rexall Place.

About the San Jose Stealth

The San Jose Stealth opened their 2007 NLL season on January 5 vs. Rochester at HP Pavilion in San Jose. Gary Rosyski and Jeff Zywicki each had hat-tricks in the game that premiered new Stealth acquisition Colin Doyle, but the Stealth fell to Rochester 14-11.

After the heartbreaking home opener, San Jose headed to Calgary where they earned a thrilling overtime victory against the Roughnecks on Friday January 12. The Stealth returned to San Jose the next day, only to drop their second home game of 2007 to Arizona 14-11. On January 19, the Stealth traveled out to Philadelphia where they suffered a last minute 9-8 loss to the Wings after a four-goal fourth quarter rally. The expansion Chicago Shamrox came to San Jose on January 26 and beat the Stealth 11-10, handing the Stealth their second one goal loss in a row. On February 3, the Stealth showcased Lacrosse Appreciation Night at HP Pavilion and San Jose Sharks Right Wing Patrick Rissmiller dropped the game ball for the re-match between the Stealth and the Calgary Roughnecks. Avenging their earlier loss, Calgary took down the Stealth 15-11 in the game that saw the Stealth spend thirty eight minutes in the penalty box. The next Stealth won their second game of the 2007 season against the New York Titans 12-11 on Feb. 24.
