Stealth downed 17-8 by Colorado Mammoth

The San Jose Stealth were defeated by the Colorado Mammoth, 17-8, in front of 17,689 fans at Pepsi Center in the season opener Jan. 2, 2004.

The Stealth opened up the game on a good note when Dan Teat caught the Mammoth crowd and goaltender, Gee Nash, off-guard :55 seconds into the game with a rifling score. The Mammoth then answered back with six unanswered goals of their own bringing their near sell-out crowd back to life.

Dan Teat once again tried to get things going for the Stealth with a power play goal to start off the second period, but was trumped once again by the Mammoth led by none other than Gary Gait with an even strength goal.

Dan Teat went on to lead the team in scoring registering two goals along with Mike Regan, who also tallied two goals for the Stealth. Josh Sanderson led the team in points for the game with five (1 goal, 4 assists) followed by Mike Regan with four points(2 goals, 2 assists), Gary Rosyski with four points (1 goal, 3 assists) and Dan Teat with three points (2 goals, 1 assist).

The Mammoth were led to victory by Gary Gait who registered 11 points (6 goals, 5assists) on his way to being the game most valuable player, while Gavin Prout (3 goals, 3 assists) and John Wilson (4 assists) were impressive in their debut with Colorado.

Gee Nash collected the win in goal for the Mammoth, holding San Jose to only eight goals, as Rob Blasdell received the loss for the Stealth. Nash also helped his new team offensively, recording three assists.

Prior to the game the Mammoth raised their 2003 NLL Eastern Division championship banner to the rafters of Pepsi Center.

Tonight's match was the opening game for both teams. Colorado improves to 1-0, while San Jose falls to 0-1. San Jose and Colorado then hit the floor again, Saturday, January 10th, as the Stealth host the Mammoth for the home opener at HP Pavilion.
