Statmore to join William Patterson University's women's day celebration

Allentown, Pa. - On Saturday, February 9, Assistant General Manager Erin Statmore will be one of the honorees in William Patterson University's National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. NGWSD began in 1987, as a day to remember Olympic volleyball star, Flo Hyman, for her athletic achievements and work to assure equality for women's sports.

This year, in conjunction with the celebration of NGWSD, the William Paterson University athletic department, will honor "Professional Women in Sports" at half-time of the women's basketball game vs. Richard Stockton College, which begins at 3:00 pm, in the Recreation Center on campus. In addition, WPU will honor their own female student-athletes for their achievements on the field/court and in the classroom.

Immediately following the game, the honorees will speak about their lives as athletics, and be open to answering questions from those in attendance.

Honorees include:

Kym Hampton- A retired professional basketball player, who played with the NY Liberty. She also played in Spain, Italy, France and Japan. She was one of the "32 Elite Players" to be drafted by the WNBA.

Alicia Ashley- A professional boxer and kickboxer. Two-time world boxing champion and former amateur National Golden Gloves champion.

Joan Moser- She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in two sports, field hockey-USFHA and softball-ASA

Erin Statmore- She is currently the assistant general manager for the Philadelphia Force of the National Pro Fastpitch women's professional softball league.
