TRAVERSE CITY - Travis White scored a goal and assisted on another, Alec Shields dished out a pair of assists, and Tyler Marble made 25 saves on Sunday afternoon as the Traverse City North Stars trounced St. Louis by a 4-1 margin in the finale of a three-game weekend series at Centre ICE Arena.

Tim Opie (Troy, MI/TC North Stars) scored the lone goal for the Stars (12-8-1) in the first period, redirecting a blast by White (Sterling Hts., MI/TC North Stars) with just 13 seconds left before the first intermission. Kelin Ainsworth (Thunder Bay, ONT/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) also drew an assist on the play. White drove it in himself 3:13 into the second stanza, and Michael Szmatula (Commerce Twp., MI/Lansing Capitals U18) batted the puck out of mid-air and past Bandits goalie Matt Green at 11:34 and the hosts would never look back.

St. Louis got on the board near the halfway mark of the final period, but Sean Murphy (Cary, NC/Austin NAHL) recorded his first marker of the season with 5:08 to play, sealing a three-goal victory - and second straight over the division-leading Bandits.

Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars) assisted on White's goal, Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) and Alex Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/Lansing Capitals U18) set up Szmatula's sixth of the year, while Shields and Steve Behm (Grand Rapids, MI/Texas NAHL) drew helpers on Murphy's slot shot.

Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) was sterling in net for the Stars, stopping 25 of 26 attempts, and steered aside several quality scoring chances by the visitors.

The North Stars host Michigan next weekend at Centre ICE Arena in a Friday-Saturday series. Both games face off at 7 p.m.
