Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - If it seems like the Traverse City North Stars have been away from North American Hockey League ice for a long time - that's because they have. Nearly three weeks, to be exact.
After a 4-1 start that included a season-opening victory at Chicago and a 3-1 mark at the NAHL Showcase last month, the Stars have fine- tuned their roster, tested their mettle and depth against a non- league foe in an exhibition series, and set their sights on the 2010-11 re-launch.
That restart begins this weekend in Port Huron, where the expansion Fighting Falcons will play host to Traverse City in the first-ever showdown between the North Division foes. The Falcons enjoyed their inaugural home opener last weekend against Chicago, dropping a 13-3 decision in the front end of the series and a 5-1 contest on Saturday.
Adam Frank leads the Falcons with five points in six appearances - including a team-best four assists - while Ryan Green has contributed a pair of goals and as many assists.
Ryan Amin (Canton, MI/TC North Stars) has five goals and eight points in six contests, while Alec Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars) and Travis White (Sterling Heights, MI/TC North Stars) have produced at a point-per-game or better clip thus far, while Tyler Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) has handled all of the goalkeeping duties to date, with a 1.40 goals-against average, .954 save percentage, and pair of shutouts to date.
Additionally, the Stars signed Slovakian forward Michal Toman and defenseman Alex Wiese last week. Both players were previously with USHL clubs. Forwards Cody Loyer and Nate Scurfield, and goalie Peter Emery were released.
The North Stars finally open the home portion of their schedule on Oct. 14-16 at Centre ICE arena. Springfield (Ill.) will provide the opposition for the opener on Oct. 14, the annual 'Turn the Rink Pink' charity game on Saturday, and a Sunday matinee to wrap the first visit from the Stars' new North Division rival.
