Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - Please forgive Traverse City North Stars goalie Stefan Shively if his neck is a little sore today. After all, the Stars netkeep was standing on his head all Friday night.
Shively, who snuffed 33 of the 34 shots he saw at Centre ICE arena, led a concerted defensive effort as the host Stars knocked off one of the NAHL's premier franchises with a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Bandits.
"That was just a good, solid team win," said Stars head coach Scott Gardiner. "And what more can you ask from your goalie than what Stefan gave us tonight. He stopped all he was supposed to and then some. Your best penalty killer is your goalie and Shives did that for us tonight."
Joe Greener had bookend goals for Traverse City - the opening salvo at 7:56 of the first period and an game-bagging empty-netter in the waning seconds - while Patrick Nagorsen kicked in with a goal and an assist. Adam Sponseller also scored for the hosts, while Aaron Pietila, Phil Partyka, Mike Glaesmer, Ben Plocar and Jameson Raymond also registered assists.
St. Louis (42-14-3) got its lone goal midway through the third stanza, but couldn't solve Shively despite outshooting the Stars, 34-25.
The teams face off again on Saturday night at Centre ICE arena.
