Traverse City North Stars News Release
PORT HURON - The Traverse City North Stars are becoming quite comfortable on the road, just before coming back home.
With their 6-2 victory at Port Huron on Wednesday evening, the North Stars claimed a fourth straight triumph away from Centre ICE Arena - the familiar confines to which they'll return for the next seven games.
Will Badner (Cadillac, MI/Motor City NAHL) potted a pair of goals and assisted on another during Wednesday's win over the first-place Fighting Falcons, while Kyle Schempp (Saginaw, MI/Compuware U18) kicked in a goal and an assist, and Michal Toman (Slovakia/TC North Stars NAHL) dished a pair of helpers.
The Falcons registered the game's first goal with five minutes to play in the first period, but the visitors rang up a pair of goals in just over two minutes to grab a lead they'd not relinquish. Zack Dorer (Holt, MI/Des Moines USHL) found the back of the net at 16:11, and Badner made it 2-1 just 2:05 later.
Schempp bagged what would eventually serve as the game-winning tally at 11:05 of the second stanza on a power play, and Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/TC North Stars) pushed it to 4-1 with 3:05 remaining before the second intermission.
Badner and Sean Murphy (Cary, NC/Tri-City USHL) racked unassisted lamplighters to open the third frame before the hosts Falcons capped the scoring with 7:31 to go.
Kyle Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) was busy (37 saves) while earning his ninth win of the season; His 1.92 goals-against average is currently sixth among NAHL backstops.
In addition to the playmaking of Toman, Badner, and Schempp, the defensive trio of Robert Wiener (Williamston, MI/TC North Stars NAHL), Dean Burggrabe (Marquette, MI/Compuware U18), and Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) drew an assist apiece.
The North Stars (9-4-3) and Fighting Falcons (14-8-2) will continue their prolonged series this weekend with a two-game block at Centre ICE on Friday and Saturday.
There is also extensive Thanksgiving Weekend hockey on tap: The Stars will face Michigan in a Thanksgiving Eve affair on Nov. 23, and the annual 'North Stars Never Forget' contest on Black Friday, Nov. 25. The latter game will feature the North Stars sporting special U.S. Coast Guard-themed jerseys (for auction during the game along with a number of silent auction items), and fans are asked to help stuff stockings for Michigan National Guardsmen in Afghanistan through Operation American Soldier. Fans can bring small personal items, sundries, and non-perishables that will be packed and sent to the deployed troops.
