May 12, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - San Jose SaberCats quarterback Nathan Stanley has been awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while Spokane Shock defensive end James Ruffin has been awarded Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and Spokane Shock quarterback Warren Smith has been awarded J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 7 of the 2015 Arena Football League season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week and AFL Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week has been awarded to Las Vegas Outlaws wide receiver Clinton Solomon, while the AFL Highlight of the Week has been awarded to Philadelphia Soul defensive back LaRico Stevenson.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Stanley (6-4, 225, Southeastern Louisiana) looked to be in playoff form already despite making his first start of the season in Week 7. The second-year signal-caller completed all but two passes in San Jose's 61-28 victory over the Las Vegas Outlaws, throwing for 242 yards and seven touchdowns along the way.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ruffin (6-4, 265, Northern Iowa) continued his stellar defensive play in Week 7, recording 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in Spokane's 68-46 victory over the LA KISS. The reigning AFL Defensive Lineman of the Year has collected at least one sack in each of the last four games.

J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Smith (6-1, 200, Maine) made quite a first impression in his AFL debut last week, guiding the Shock to a 68-46 victory over the LA KISS. He completed 23-of-29 passes for 313 yards and six touchdowns through the air to go along with one more score on the ground. He also led the Shock to a perfect conversion percentage in the red zone, going 4-for-4 on the night.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Solomon (6-4, 210, Iowa) made a juggling grab for a 33-yard touchdown in the Outlaws' 28-61 loss to the San Jose SaberCats in Week 7. Though the fourth quarter score was Solomon's only trip to the end zone in the game, he finished the night with 100 receiving yards on six catches. He will receive a Cutters hat and shirt in recognition of the catch.

AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Stevenson (5-11, 205, West Georgia) made a spectacular play on the ball for his first of two interceptions in Philadelphia's 62-48 victory over the Orlando Predators in Week 7. In the third quarter of Friday's win, the sixth-year defensive back made a diving catch off a deflected fourth down pass in the end zone to give possession and momentum back to the Soul.
