San Diego Spirit News Release

SAN DIEGO -The San Diego Spirit has rolled out two new ticket-marketing campaigns to drive 2003 season ticket sales, which began on August 19. The Spirit had a league-best 2002 season ticket sales total of 2,314.

Release Summary

- If the Spirit fails to reach the playoffs, season ticket holders can purchase 2004 season tickets at 2001 prices.

- Season ticket holders who refer new fans to purchase season tickets can participate in a private team clinic.

The Spirit will offer 2003 season ticket holders a guarantee that the team will qualify for the playoffs, if not, then all fans that purchased season tickets will be able to renew 2004 season tickets at 2001 prices. The "Win/Win Guarantee" promotion is the first offer of its kind in the WUSA.

"The unconditional support we have received from our fans during the first two seasons has been amazing," said Spirit director of operations & fan development Vicky Lynch. "The 'Win/Win Guarantee' is our way of telling these great fans that we are going to do everything possible to bring them winning soccer in 2003."

In addition to the "Win/Win Guarantee" offer, the club is beginning a new referral program named "Teammates" to present to its 2003 season ticket holders. If a season ticket holder refers individuals to purchase a new 2003 season ticket account, they will become eligible to attend a private preseason soccer clinic conducted by the Spirit at Torero Stadium. The "Teammates" program will end on December 31.

"We have found that word of mouth is our best marketing tool," said Lynch. "Existing Spirit fans tell friends and family about what a great experience a Spirit home game is. The 'Teammates' program allows us to reward that loyalty."

During the 2002 season at Torero Stadium, the Spirit increased its average attendance to 5,883 from the 2001 mark of 5,713.
