San Diego Spirit News Release
PHILADELPHIA - It will take a tremendous effort, but the San Diego Spirit can claim sole possession of first place in the WUSA with a win in Philadephia on Saurday. San Diego, which has 20 points, has never beaten the Charge in Villanova Stadium, and has only beaten them once in eight career matches. The Atlanta Beat, which has 22 points, suffered a 3-2 loss tonight to the Carolina Courage setting up the circumstances that allows the Spirit to be in unchartered territory this late in the season, first place. After Saturday's game, San Diego will have only seven games remaining on their 2003 schedule. The match will not be televised, however, fans and media can follow the match on MatchTracker at wusa.com.
