Spencer homers in Force 9-2 loss to Brakettes

Allentown, Pennsylvania -The Philadelphia Force dropped 9-2 in game one to the Connecticut Brakettes, Monday, August 21st at ECTB Stadium at Bicentennial Park. Sarah Pauly earned the win on the night improving to 14-5. Leading the Brakettes offensively was Jessica Merchant who went 2-for-4 with a home run on the night. Jennifer Stewart took the loss on the night dropping to 6-11. Chelsea Spencer hit a two run home run on the night scoring the only Force runs.

The Brakettes immediately put pressure on the Force in the top of the first inning after two walks and a single by shortstop Jessica Merchant. Force pitcher Jennifer Stewart induced a pop up and a fly out for two outs before Stephanie Best singled to left field to score a run for the Brakettes as they took the lead 1-0.

Kellie Wilkerson led off the third inning with a double before Merchant blasted a two run homerun to increase the Brakette lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Force put two runs on the board after Sarah Fekete hit her second single of the night, followed by a Chelsea Spencer's two run homerun to put the Force within one run of the Brakettes, 3-2.

In the top of the fourth inning, Callie Piper led off with a walk and Heather Wright entered the game as a pinch runner. Wright advanced to second on a ground out and then scored off of a single by Kelly Kretchman, who eventually scored on two Force errors, increasing the Brakette lead to 5-2 over the Force.

The Brakettes added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Brakettes got on base courtesy of two Force errors before Best hit a sacrifice fly and Denise Denis blasted a three run homerun, putting Connecticut ahead for good, 9-2.

The Force will play the Connecticut Brakettes in a double header for their last two home games of the year on Tuesday, August 22nd. Game one is slated for 4:00 PM and game two is slated for 7:00 PM. Tickets are good for both games.
