Sparks And Johnson Finalize Roster

February 29, 2008 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Kalamazoo Xplosion News Release

Head Coach Mike Sparks and General Manager/Owner Mike Johnson came to terms with 28 players before practice Thursday (Feb. 28.) night. After more than three weeks of training camp, the coaching staff plus Johnson have cut down the Xplosion roster considerably since day one. The first night of training camp featured over 40 athletes who went to battle for a spot on the active roster. All 40 had a chance to participate in an intra-squad scrimmage Feb. 16, which was the final stop for 15 of them.

After a scrimmage with the Saginaw Sting, the Xplosion coaching staff and front office narrowed the roster down to 28 players. Each player that does not make the 21-man travel squad will be invited to stay on board and join the practice squad.

"I think we found the best group of guys we could have, and I'm really excited about 2008. We got a few new guys in the off-season that will benefit us, and of course we have a strong core group of guys returning," said General Manager Mike Johnson.

The Xplosion kickoff the 2008 season Friday, March 7 at Chicago. Listen to the game live on ESPN 1660, or at www.ESPN1660.com - Coverage begins at 7:15 pm, with a 7:30 pm kickoff.
