Southern Cookin' Montgomery-Style Comes To The AIFL
August 15, 2006 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release
America's fastest growing indoor football league has arrived in Alabama. AIFL president Andrew Haines announced the addition of a league franchise in Montgomery at a recent press conference.
The Montgomery Bears will play in the league's Southern Conference when the 2007 season kicks-off early next year. The Bears are co-owned by John Morris and Michael Mink, with Morris working as the team's General Manager and Mink as Head Coach.
Morris and Mink previously owned both professional indoor and minor league outdoor football teams.
" We love where the AIFL is headed, " said Morris. " Andrew's got a great mind for marketing and with input from the league's other owners, I'm very confident that the AIFL will become one of the premier indoor football leagues in the nation, " Morris added.
" Montgomery is a fantastic market for the AIFL, " said Haines. "I targeted Montgomery and I couldn't be happier for the league that John, Mike, and I were able to reach an agreement, " Haines commented.
The Bears will play in Montgomery's Garrett Coliseum and as the team's head coach, Mink can't wait to get started. " I wish the season kicked-off in 6 days, not 6 months, " said Mink.
In addition to their previous stint as owners in the NIFL, Morris and Mink also partnered in the roles of General Manager and Head Coach to lead the Gulf Coast Raiders of the minor league Southern States Football League in Florida to a National Conference Southern Division championship with a record of 9-1 earlier this year.
