Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (March 24, 2015) - The Philadelphia Soul have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Curtis Young (6'1", 270, Cincinnati). With the addition of this strong pass rusher, the Soul finalizes their 2015 season roster.
"Curtis is a versatile athlete who has the ability to bring pressure from both the 'mack' linebacker and defensive end positions," said Soul assistant head coach Phil Bogle. "He's a great addition to the defensive line and will be a serious threat to the opposing team's offense."
Young, who enters his fourth season in the Arena Football League, started as a rookie for the Cleveland Gladiators in 2012. He recorded seven tackles over four games. Young collected 32 tackles and one sack in 15 games for the Pittsburgh Power in 2013, but had a breakout season in 2014 when he tallied 25.5 total tackles and 7.0 sacks in 18 starts.
Prior to his start in the Arena Football League, Young debuted for the UFL's Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2010. Young was also signed by the Green Bay Packers in 2010.
Growing up in Cleveland, it was natural for Young to attend the University of Cincinnati. In 2008, Young played in all 14 games for the Cincinnati Bearcats, and finished the season with 25 tackles and four sacks. Young made 10 starts as an outside linebacker in 2009, and tied for second on the team with 11 tackles for a loss. Young was also ninth on the squad with 50 tackles, including 31 solo stops, two sacks and five quarterback hurries.
