Detroit Red Wings alumni team to take on the Eagles at the Pullar
The Soo Eagles will face-off against a legendary opponent on Saturday, September 14, when the Detroit Red Wings alumni team meets them on the ice at Sault Ste. Marie's Pullar Stadium.
Organizers are planning the perfect combination of hockey excitement and community support at this charity event being sponsored by the Sault Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Proceeds from the event will benefit the KDR Challenge, the Soo Eagles, and The Sault Events.
"The KDR Challenge is so excited to be a part of bringing the Red Wing Alumni Team to the Sault. Kelsey was a HUGE hockey fan," said Bonnie Raffaele, KDR coordinator and Kelsey's Mom. The KDR Challenge was created in memory of Kelsey Dawn Raffaele who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on January 24, 2010. KDR focuses on educating Michigan youth about the dangers of using a cell phone while driving. Raffaele said monies raised by the hockey game will be put to good use. "The KDR Challenge will be able to speak to thousands of students because of this generosity," she said, thanking the Soo Eagles and the Sault CVB. Ron Lavin, co-owner of the Soo Eagles, said the team is proud to partner with KDR and do good things on behalf of community.
"The Soo Eagles are entering their fourth season under the current ownership and look to continue making an impact in the community," Lavin said. Hosting the Red Wings Alumni team requires a financial commitment "" something the Sault CVB was willing to undertake on behalf of the groups benefiting from the event. "We think it will be a great night for the community and a great night for hockey lovers," said Linda Hoath, executive director of the Sault CVB. "We are pleased that The Sault Events "" the group that plans area activities, including the upcoming Gus Macker event "" will receive a portion of the proceeds, along with KDR Challenge and the Soo Eagles," she added.
Tickets are on sale now at a variety of locations, including the Sault CVB office, the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce, Neville's Superette, and the Soo Eagles office.
Tickets purchased before September 1 will cost $16 For adults and $12 for kids under 18. Ticket prices will increase after September 1. For more information about the event, call the Sault CVB at (906) 632-3366 or visit saultstemarie.com.
