
Slam's Webb heading to Germany

BELLINGHAM, Wash.-The Bellingham Slam have announced that its first player from the 2010 International Basketball League season has signed a contract to play overseas this winter. Guard Derrick Webb will head to Europeto compete with the Licher Bears in Germany's second division.
Webb, 23, recently completed a successful rookie professional season with the Slam this spring. After playing limited minutes to start the season, he had a superb second half, averaging 15.7 points in his last six games. Webb scored in double figures in eight games in 2010, with a season-high 20 points coming on June 25 against Tacoma. He proved to be an integral part of Bellingham's postseason run, as he scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting in the team's IBL conference final win over Yamhill on July 3. Webb also finished the season as the Slam's best three-point shooter, connecting on 36.6 percent of his outside shots.
Webb joined the Slam, along with fellow Viking teammates Morris Anderson and Zach Bruce, after completing his senior season at Western Washingtonin March. Webb finished the 2009-10 season first on the team and fourth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in scoring at 16.3 points per game. As a junior and senior, he helped lead the Vikings to consecutive appearances in the NCAA-II West Regional Tournament.
Webb transferred to Western Washingtonwith Anderson and Bruce after a two-year stint at HighlineCommunity College. The trio led Highline to the NWAACC championship in 2006.
In high school, Webb was a standout at SouthKitsapHigh School, leading the Wolves to fifth place or better at the state tournament all three years of his varsity career.
Webb will leave for Germanythis weekend and will begin practicing with his new team immediately. The team's first game in set for September 11 and their regular season runs through April. The team plays in the city of Lich, located north of Frankfurtin central Germany.
