Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, Wash. - Center Blake Poole, who recently completed his first professional season with the Bellingham Slam, has signed a contract to play overseas with the club BG Dorsten in Germany.

Dorsten is located in northwestern Germany and the team competes in the country's second basketball division.

Poole arrived in Germany earlier this week and has already played in one exhibition game for his new team, a 87-64 loss to the D1/4sseldorf Giants. Poole will play an important role with his new team, which is in its first season in the Pro-B Bundesliga after being promoted from Germany's third division last season.

As one of the top rookies in the International Basketball League this season, Poole led Bellingham and was fourth in the league in rebounding with 10.9 boards per game and was tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game.

Poole finished the 2011 season with eight double-doubles, including a 25 point, 14 rebound performance against the Edmonton Energy on May 20.

Poole joined the Slam after completing his collegiate career at Saint Martin's University in February, finishing fourth in scoring and first in rebounding as a senior in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, with averages of 19.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He was named the 2010-11 GNAC Player of the Year and also an NCAA Division-II All-American.

In addition to his team-leading scoring and rebounding numbers at Saint Martin's, Poole finished first on the Saints in field goal shooting (54.7 percent), steals (48), and blocks (20).

In high school, Poole was a standout at Sheldon High School in Eugene, Ore., where he led the Fighting Irish to third place in the 2007 Oregon 6A state tournament as a senior.

Poole is the fourth current Slam player to play professionally in Germany in recent years, joining Tyler Amaya, Derrick Webb and Ira Graham.

Dorsten's regular season begins in September and their league's playoffs run through April.
