Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam has announced that center Blake Poole will be returning to Germany to play professionally for the third straight season.

The 6-foot-5 graduate of Saint Martin's University will be suiting up for the Herten Lions, a team located in northwest Germany which competes in the country's third-division ProB league.

Poole has spent the two previous winters competing with the team BG Dorsten, also a member of the ProB league and located a short distance away from his new squad in Herten. Poole was a consistent double-double threat with Dorsten, averaging 15 points and 14 rebounds per game last season.

Poole recently completed his third stint with the Bellingham Slam earlier this month, helping the team to a franchise-best 18-2 record in 2013 and its second consecutive International Basketball League Championship. A 21 point, 12 rebound performance in the IBL title game gave him the contest's Most Valuable Player honors. Poole was also named the league's Center of the Year by USBasket.com and was a first-team All-Star the previous two seasons. He averaged 20 points and 12 boards per game for Bellingham in 2013.

Prior to joining the Slam, Poole enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at Saint Martin's, finishing fourth in scoring and first in rebounding as a senior in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, with averages of 19 points and 12 rebounds per game. He was named the 2010-11 GNAC Player of the Year and also an NCAA Division-II All-American. Poole will depart for Germany next month to begin training with his new team. Herten's regular season schedule begins in September and runs through April.
