Slam's Parker, Dennis sign with IBL teams
April 5, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Two Bellingham Slam players have signed contracts to play in the International Basketball League this season, the team announced today. Forward Mike Parker has signed with the Portland Chinooks, while center Brian Dennis joins the expansion Everett Explosion.
The IBL is a minor basketball league similar to the American Basketball Association, of which the Slam have been a member for the past two seasons, except the IBL's season runs from April to July.
Parker, a graduate of Evergreen State, led the Slam in scoring this season with 30.3 points per game. He was named an ABA All-Star in January and scored a career-high 51 points in the Slam's final regular season game on Feb 28.
Dennis, from Western Washington University, was the Slam's leading rebounder and second-best in the ABA with 11.0 rebounds per game. Dennis proved to be a master shot blocker as well, setting a team record with 12 blocks on Feb. 26 against Sacramento.
Both Parker and Dennis helped the Slam reach the quarterfinals of the ABA playoffs for the second straight season. The Slam's season came to an end against eventual champion Vermont, losing 119-103 on March 21.
Parker has already seen his first IBL action, helping Portland to a 125-97 victory over Vancouver on April 1, while Dennis will help Everett kick off their home season on April 10 vs. Lewis County at the Everett Events Center.
