Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam have announced that guard Ira Graham has signed a contract to play in Germany this winter. Graham becomes the first Slam player from last season's squad to sign an overseas contract for the 2009-10 season.

Graham will be playing for the Saar-Pfalz Braves, a team in Germany's second division. Graham arrived in Germany last week and has already played in one exhibition game with his new team, scoring 14 points in a 81-63 loss to first-division team TBB Trier.

A former Western Washington standout, Graham enjoyed a fine rookie campaign with the Slam. In 22 games, he averaged 18.5 points per game on 52.9 percent shooting and was Bellingham's assist leader with 120, a 5.5 per game average. Graham scored a season-high 40 points against the Edmonton Energy on May 16, and was one of four Slam players to be named to the 2009 International Basketball League all-star team.

As a Viking, Graham led Western Washington with a 19.1 points per game scoring average during his senior season and helped the school capture its first ever outright Great Northwest Athletic Conference title last spring. Graham was named the GNAC's player of the year and appeared in the Division II All-Star Game alongside Slam teammate and ex-Saint Martin's star Jake Linton.

Graham's efforts resulted in an invitation to participate in a tryout for the NBA's Washington Wizards, which he took part in last month.
